Should’ve picked a different image. Fuck Integras, Fuck FWD, driving this thing is like pulling teeth
I know a lot of Oppos play the newer installments of these games (particularly Forza), but I’ve always been a Playstation owner. That meant a lot of missing out on some of the great racing titles, but no longer. I’ve got myself an original Xbox, I’ve beaten PGR 2 (my PGR 1 doesn’t work well), and I’m onto Forza 1. Hopefully I can move upwards and eventually get a newer Xbox for some newer games - Horizon particularly looks amazing.
Despite their age, these games hold up fairly well if you’re into that sort of thing. The physics are robust with proper over- and under-steer, and could teach a thing or two to today’s boring auto-drift bullshit. I miss the days where it was profitable to make a decent racing game without having to dumb it right down for the masses. And I miss the days where it was less about tuning, more about driving beautiful expensive cars. Today’s games are great, but ye olde style burns in my heart.
But jesus, the music in Forza 1 is corny.

PGR 2 was so much fun. I played that game all of the time as a kid. I remember walking around the virtual showroom and test driving all of the cars. Great game. Also, I have to agree with you on the music selection in Forza 1. So many cringeworthy covers.

I can remember at about hour 100 of playing Forza 1 my dad forced me to listen to my own damn music instead of the in game stuff. Especially cause I usually spend 2 hours in the menu for every hour of race time so it was nearly always this gem:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Forza 2's soundtrack is muuuch better.

*shudder*
It’s like they’re trying to channel 80s arcade. In a 2002 simulator. Ridiculous. Especially when you compare the music of their only competitor, the well-established Gran Turismo: classy lounge for the menus, punk and rock for the main game. What were Turn 10 thinking?

I never played it as a kid :P But I thoroughly enjoyed it as an adult! Very good quality game.

I dunno man, it was a pretty popular time for that sort of rock. Nickleback were at their greatest height. Incubus and Hoobastank were regularly on the radio and Video Hits.
The game was a hit though, so it worked. It was just a good thing the Xbox was sold on the ability to play your own music with any game which fixed the problem for me. I think it was QOTSA and Audioslave that were big at the time for me.

Damn, those are games that I’ve been playing recently on Xbox too (when I was younger it was definitely NFS Most Wanted Black Edition), and I’m thinking about picking up a PS2 for some Gran Turismo games.

Time to find a Dreamcast and play Metropolis Street Racer

That would be interesting! I think I’ll emulate it actually. Curious to see how the physics hold up

I had Most Wanted too, loved it at the time. And the old GT games are gems!

I suppose. But it sounds cornier than that.
Oh you can do that out of the box? Yeah, that is cool.

I’m hooked on Forza 6 for PC. I just need to upgrade my graphics a bit and wondering about buying a wheel.

I’m eternally wondering about buying a wheel. It’s a pain that never ends

Forza 2 was my jam, back in the day. Must’ve clocked hundreds of hours on that. It’s what got me into cars in the first place.

I’ll get there soon enough, can’t wait!
